Loved It: Domino Magazine

Domino Magazine is BACK! ...for a limited time.  Probably you already knew that, but if by some small chance I'm not the last to find out, I thought it was my duty to share the news with you.  Here's to hoping it was a trial run to see if the powers that be want to re-launch it permanently!

Loved It: DIY Headboard

One of the best wedding gifts husband and I received was a sweet handmade, tuffed headboard! (I use the word sweet in a cool sense, not a sugary one)  But alas!  For our 1 yr anniversary my parents bought us new (bigger! yay!) mattresses.  The old headboard didn't fit with the new mattress.  We got a new frame to hold the mattress. (yay! not on the floor!)  Although comfortable, it was a sad sight.  (did I mention we are not allowed to paint in our apartment?)  Lets just say I've been in doctor's offices that have more decor.  Well not anymore!     Last week I took matters into my own hands!  I made my own (faux) headboard!  And let me tell you, it was easy!  I didn't make it fancy like my old one- tuffed? I wish!  But I was still happy with the results.  Here is a little tutorial should you want to add a little pizzazz to your room.

       Materials Needed:
  • 1 lightweight sheet of plywood (I got mine at home depot for $8)
  • 1 section of foam padding, cut to fit your plywood (this is the most expensive part. It cost me about $25 at fabric depot.)
  • enough fabric to completly cover your plywood by a few inches around the edges (my fabric is from Ikea for $7/yard)
  • All purpose glue (a glue made for foam and wood)
  • Staple gun
  • Nails
  • Wire
  • Sissors
       Instructions:
Squeeze a layer of glue onto the plywood board, following the shape of the board, about an inch or two from the edges and a little in the middle of the board.  Place the foam on top of the board and let it dry for at least an hour.  Cover the board with the fabric (you may need to cut the fabric down to size) and pull the edge of the fabric around the backside of the board and staple with the staple gun.  Pull the fabric tight as you go, making sure there aren't any creases on the front of the board.  Once you are done stapling the fabric into the back of the board you're ready to put the wire on the back!  Simply measure down evenly on both sides of the board where your nails will go.  Nail in the nails, but leave a little sticking out.  Cut your wire to about 8 to 10 inches longer than the board and wrap the ends of the wire around each nail. (you can even staple down the wire near the nails to ensure safety)  Now you're ready to hang your new headboard on the wall above your bed!!!

Loved It: Gold Spray Paint

There is not a whole lot that spray paint can't fix and/or improve. But I never would have thought of it for these awesome DIY projects! Everybody loves a good branch/twig inspired jewelry/jewelry organizer/table centerpiece. The only thing better is a branch/twig inspired GOLD jewelry/jewelry organizer/table centerpiece. I found the instructions here and here. But really, they're pretty self-explanatory.

The bracelets look a little more complicated, but still relatively easy...

Loved It: Bathrooms...again

I know I (very)  recently did a post about bathrooms but I just can't get enough of these pretty loos! Here are some more inspirational photos...

Loved It: Holly Golightly's Apartment

I like to keep my readers up-to-date.  And so I feel it's my duty to inform you that the apartment Holly Golightly lives in, in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's, is on the market.  It's listed at a cool 5.85 million. I say that's a small price to pay for the most awesome apartment ever! (if you have 5.85 million to spare)

Loved It: Bathrooms I Could Live In

I once house-sat for a woman who had a bathroom bigger than her master bedroom.  And her master bedroom was huge.  It might seem over the top, but actually I think she was on to something.  Her bathroom could have used a little updating but she was on the right track by devoting so much attention to it.  Personally, the bathroom is my favorite room. (insert toilet joke here)  If a bathroom is done right it's a place for getting clean and getting relaxed.  Here are a few of the bathrooms I dream about...

Loved It: Branch and Birdie

Been wanting some great smelling candles that look pretty in my apartment forever. Everyday at work I'm surrounded by pretty candles that smell amazing. Why don't I just buy myself a few of those, you ask? Well because I don't poop gold, that's why. Jo Malone makes a gorgeous candle for $65. (yes that's a normal sized candle, they make minis for $35 and a jumbo for $400. yes. we're still talking about candles.) Then there's everybody's favorite, Diptyque. (if you've never heard of it, you'd still probably recognize it) Now their candle is $60 and to be honest I don't really like the way any of their candles smell. Sure they're pretty, but $60? Really? Trish McEvoy makes the most amazing smelling candle. Wild Blueberry Vanilla. Trust me, I've never met someone who doesn't like the smell. And although it's cheaper than the aforementioned candles, it's still a spendy $50. WHY??? And then, of course there is my beloved line, Laura Mercier. Every holiday season she comes out with her roasted chestnut candle. It smells like WONDERFULNESS. Really, it does. Like cinnamon rolls and pumpkin pie and a roaring fire while it's snowing outside. And while I love to support my line, they don't pay me enough to spend $42 on a candle. Where is this tirade going you ask? Well I stumbled across the most delightful little store on Friday and thus came an end to my candle woes. Branch and Birdie is located on upper Stark street, in the Montavilla neighborhood. It is the cutest store! It's mostly a gift shop but it does carry some cute clothes too. (for mother and child) Looking for a great gift and don't want to spend an arm and a leg? Check this place out! Oh and did I mention they have the BEST selection of beautiful Voluspa (jumbo) candles under $30! (some even under $20)

Those earrings on the far right were crying out to me. I told them to be patient. My husband  would be back for them. Hint. Hint.

Loved It: Pretty Laundry Rooms

To be clear, any sort of laundry room would make me happy. It's my dream to one day have a washer and dryer inside my humble abode. It's my extra-extra dreamy part of the dream to have a lovely space for my washer and dryer. Until then I will make do by looking at pictures of pretty laundry rooms.

of course, I saved the best for last...

Loved It: Elephants

My girlfriend Ashley inspired this post. We follow each other on Pinterest and she has an elephant board. I love elephants. Who doesn't? I mean they smell awesome. Seriously though, I think elephants are enchanting. Enormous, yet gentle creatures.  Just beautiful.

this is the phone case i've currently been using.
wouldn't this be adorable in a little girl's room?

Loved It: Forts

As a child I enjoyed playing with dolls, my mother's makeup and shoes, climbing trees and riding bikes. But my favorite was building forts. Oh the joy! I guess we don't ever really grow out of liking certain things. I mean, I still love makeup and shoes. Instead of playing with dolls I like to hold actual babies. Riding my bike is still a lot of fun. And I would climb trees if I had the agility. (sounds like a good workout, doesn't it? look out rock climbing! tree climing is coming!) So I guess it's not surprising that I'm still enchanted with forts! If my husband would let me, our entire bedroom would be one glorious fort! Here are a few pictures for inspiration.
